About the documentary
A documentary about a Chinese student's school life in a British school
Nowadays, more and more Chinese parents choose to send their children to a foreign country and study abroad, and statistics could support that: In 2017, the number of Chinese students studying abroad exceeded 600,000 for the first time, reaching 608,400, which is keep increasing.
However, there are still some people in China have misunderstanding towards students who study abroad. For example, most of them are rich, the study in other countries is much easier and less stress than that in China, and most students are playing for most times, etc. Some of them might be right, but still not true for the whole group.
In this documentary, we filmed a Chinese girl who have stayed in the UK for 4 years about her daily school life in a British boarding school. We made this documentary is aimed for showing a more realistic view of what a Chinese student's school life in a foreign country looks like.
Education in China
The main feature of the Chinese education system is that it is an exam-oriented education. Generally, this educational system is aiming for achieving high grades in the exam(and this is the most important thing). As a result, while teaching, teachers may only teach the knowledge on text book or which is relevant to the exam. This cause several problems. For example, students may have less motivation of exploring new knowledge as they usually don't have time to explore the area that they are interested in.
However, since China has a huge number of population, and there is a huge gap between some poor areas and the rich areas, by using the exam-oriented education, it could ensure that every students could have equal education. Another advantage of this system is that no matter how many applicants there are, as long as the difficulty coefficient is adjusted, the students worthy of admission can be screened out.
This process does not require the participation of a large number of experts and costs very little. Therefore, even though, this educational system has many limitations, it may be the most suitable system for education in China.
Education in the UK
The education in the UK has a big different compared with that in China. Compared with China, the education in the UK is more flexible and there are more subjects that students could choose. In addition to the basic subjects of mathematics, English, science, history and geography, students can also choose the subjects they are interested in, such as drama, music, media and so on. Also, in the UK, students are encouraged to have extra learning by themselves, and students have more personal perspective of the answer as some of the subjects do not have a set answer.

However, in the UK, the inequality in education is a big problem. For instance, private schools have a better quality of teaching and facilities while publich schools are worse. In addition, the funds of the private schools are more than that of the public schools, which means that not all families could pay that fund and therefore they could only go to the public schools. This cause the inequality between the rich families and the poor families because students in the poor families could not get the same education as the students from the rich families. Therefore, this educational system also has limitations.
